The Strong Eater

This one enjoys seeing our Lord Jesus throughout His Book. A fun one He showed was from this ‘riddle’:

Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet.(Judges 14:14 a)

Let us look at this in pieces that connect to scriptures throughout His Book.

Out of the eater:

Deuteronomy 4:24.

24. For the Lord your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.

Hebrews 12:29

29. for our God is a consuming fire.

Leviticus 9:24

24 Fire came out from the Lord and consumed the burnt offering and the fat on the altar; and when all the people saw it, they shouted and fell on their faces.

1 Kings 18: 37-38

37 Answer me, O Lord, answer me, so that this people may know that you, O Lord, are God, and that you have turned their hearts back.”
38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt offering, the wood, the stones, and the dust, and even licked up the water that was in the trench.

Luke 7:34

34 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’

Matthew 11:19

19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ But wisdom is proved right by her deeds.”

Jesus drank (consumed) the world’s sin…being seen as sinful for us and taking the full punishment of God’s wrath upon Himself. He exchanged our sin for His righteousness so we who believe in His redeeming work could come to the Father, being seen as righteous-covered in His blood as adopted children.

2 Corinthians 5:21

21. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Something to eat:

John 6: 53-58

53 Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.
55 For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
56 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.
57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Matthew 26: 26

26 While they were eating, Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take and eat; this is my body.”

John 1: 1-5

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
5The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome (understood) it.

Jeremiah 15: 16

16 When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty.

Out of the strong:

Job 9: 4-6, 19

4 He is wise in heart, and mighty in strength—who has resisted him, and succeeded?—
5 he who removes mountains, and they do not know it, when he overturns them in his anger;
6 who shakes the earth out of its place, and its pillars tremble;
19 If it is a contest of strength, he is the strong one! If it is a matter of justice, who can summon him?

Job 12:13

13 “With God are wisdom and strength; he has counsel and understanding.

Psalm 46:1

1 God is our refuge and strength,
a very present help in trouble.

Exodus 15:2

2 The Lord is my strength and my might, and he has become my salvation; this is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.

1 Chronicles 16:11

11 Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.

Isaiah 41:10

10 do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Mark 16: 19

19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.

2 Corinthians 12: 8-10

8 Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Something sweet:

Psalm 19: 10 (‘they’ refers to God’s decrees-words: remember also that Jesus is the Word)

10 More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb.

Psalm 34: 8

8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!

Psalm 119: 103

103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

Proverbs 24: 13

13 My son, eat honey, for it is good, and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.

Song of Solomon 2: 3

3 As an apple tree among the trees of the forest, so is my beloved among the young men. With great delight I sat in his shadow, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.
(Apples are extremely good for you, filled with health benefits including acting like nature’s toothbrush.
Sitting in his shadow very much can connect to being in ‘the shadow of His wings”.)

John 6: 57-58

57 Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
58 This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your ancestors ate manna and died, but whoever feeds on this bread will live forever.”

Exodus 16:31

31 The people of Israel called the bread manna. It was white like coriander seed and tasted like wafers made with honey.

Philippians 4:19

19 And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.

Remember, God’s words are sweeter than honey. Jesus, the Word,  is sweeter than all other things; all our needs are met in Him. Honey literally is good but Jesus (spiritual honey) is best.

This riddle that Samson told spiritually foretells of Jesus the Lion of Judah and God’s plan as the eater to give us something to eat that only ends in sweetness, that is Christ Jesus.

How brilliant is our God, that He can place Jesus all throughout His Book in such a way that it could be hidden for as long as He chose for it to be. Then He can reveal it to any He chooses, when He chooses to. He is beyond awesome and, most definitely, sweeter than honey!!!🍯

On a side note, my apologies for my poor formatting skills. It is the best that could be done here without taking too much time redoing things too many times. What is said is most important anyway. Be blessed everyone 💕
